Watercolorist Margy Trauerman was born in South Dakota and raised in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended Los Angeles City College and earned a BFA from State University of Iowa. She attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago to study advertising and later moved to New York to study fine arts with Jacob Getlar Smith at the Art Students League.
