Maurice Tete was born in the Loire region in 1880. He went on to study painting with William Bouguereau although he later repudiated his teachings and moved toward a freer, more intellectual style. He exhibited at the Society National of which he was a member. He was a follower of neo-impressionist trends and later became greatly interested in cubism, his mature work taking on a more geometric style.
