Born on January 31, 1875 to Dr. Charles Hermon Thomas & Eliza Marcella Kirk Cameron in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  After attending the Penn Charter school, Paul Thomas was admitted to  the University of Pennsylvania.  During his freshman year he was on the staff of the University News publication and designed many of its front pages.  He left the University after his freshman year to become a student at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia before he began traveling extensively and studying in Europe, mainly Spain and Italy, sponsored by his uncle Augustus Thomas. Cecilia Beaux was one of his good friends.

Among some of his many paintings, three hang at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School, including a full length portrait of his half brother, who was a Dean of the Dental School,  Dr. Edward C. Kirk.  Also, a full length portrait of the founder of Bryn Mawr College, Dr. Joseph W. Taylor, his great uncle, hangs at the College. He worked in many mediums including modeling in clay, pen and ink sketches, charcoal, copper etchings and oil portraits and landscapes.  He also worked in the field of commercial advertising.  There are several large self portraits of him as a young man.
Paul K. M. Thomas resided in New Rochelle, New York for a good part of his life.  He was first married to Edith Massie and had two sons, Falconer and Gervase.  In 1933, after his divorce, he married Amy Calway. Their daughter Joan was born in 1935 when he was 60.  He was active and alert up to the time of his death at 87 in New Rochelle on July 13, 1962.
