| Philip Thorngate, California landscape and seascape painter, was born to Missionary parents on January 17, 1932 near Shanghai, China. During the early years of World War II, Thorngate and his family fled China when it was invaded by Japan. He returned after the War, in his later years, to attend the American School in Shanghai. Following a family tradition, Thorngate became a physician and graduated from Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. He specialized in plein air land (showing 500 of 1117 characters). |
