| | Born in Pietra Santa, Italy on May 15, 1880. Tognelli studied at Academia delle Belle Arti in Florence before immigrating to northern California at the turn of the century. Settling in Lincoln, he was head of the art department at Gladding-McBean Company until moving to San Francisco about 1921. He provided architectural embellishments for several of the buildings on the campus at UC Berkeley. For the GGIE of 1939, he contributed sculptures for the Court of the Seven Seas on Treasure Island.
