A landscape painter, pioneer photographer, illustrator and etcher, Sherman Trease spent most of his career in California. He was born in Galena, Kansas and studied at the School of Applied Art in Battle Creek, Michigan. In 1924, he moved to California where he was an active part of the art community and wrote an art column for the "San Diego Union".
