This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Enjoying a successful career as head of a graphic design firm in Chicago, Tina Tatai left it all behind to resume a relationship with her first love - painting. Her website is www.TATAiART.COM

Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1953, her passion for creativity began from the time she could hold a pencil. Primarily a self-taught artist, she completed her first professional landscape in oils at age nine, accepted commissions for her portraiture work and began illustrating the various scenes of life surrounding her. At twelve years of age, she studied drawing and fine art disciplines in advanced courses at The Cooper School, The Cleveland Institute of Art and The Cleveland Museum of Art.

With no advanced training after high school, she began a professional career in the commercial world of art first as a staff artist at a major industrial publishing firm in Cleveland culminating as a graphic designer/creative director in Chicago. She resumed her fine art drawing and painting full time once again after she stepped down as owner/president of her Chicago design firm and established her studio on the gentle foothills of the Wainae Mountains of Oahu.

After leaving her island paradise in 1997, she reestablished her studio in the artist community of Southern California. While living in Hawaii, she began painting realistic island scenes portraying the awesome power and essence of nature found all around her. But after moving back to the mainland, she began to experiment with abstract themes. Drawing upon her commercial background, she draws upon her design instincts to produce work which she feels best expresses her artistic voice and sensitivities. "My work is consciously uncomplicated and simplistic. However, I apply a great deal of effort when creating my color palettes and compositions as I pare each down to a distilled visual statement. Translating my image studies to canvas or paper is a challenge I thoroughly enjoy."

She has participated in many group and solo exhibitions and her award-winning work is included in numerous private and corporate collections worldwide.
