Biography from AskART:
Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Isaac Taber, sometimes listed as Walton Taber, became one of America's foremost illustrators, especially known for his nearly 250 illustrations for a project called Battles and Leaders of the Civil War. He was highly skilled in pen and ink drawings, and most of his work was done from photographs.

He studied at the Cooper Union Art School in New York and exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy. He illustrated the first editions of Rudyard Kipling's Captain Courageous and contributed to many magazines including Century and St. Nicholas.
