Wanda Jolanda Gozdawa de Turczynowicz (Mrs. Elliot Hermann) was born in Krakow, Poland on June 16, 1908. She is the daughter of Polish nobility. Her parents were Count Stanislaw de Turczynowicz, and the American born Laura de Turczynowicz.
Her mother, Laura, originally from New York, married the father who was a and her professor. The Turczynowicz family name (which means Killer of Turks) dates back hundreds of years to a relationship with the King of Poland.
