This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Islington, England in 1864. Taverner studied art in England and had studios there and in Australia. By 1896 he had moved to Pasadena, CA where he and Benjamin C. Brown established the short-lived Lotus Art School. He did a series of ink drawings of the missions as well as bookplate commissions. Shortly after the turn of the century, he had a studio in San Francisco and was active on the Monterey Peninsula. He died at sea off the coast of Africa on Feb. 19, 1906 at age 41.
