| | Born in Germany on July 16, 1838. Ulber studied art in Munich. For political reasons, he decamped to the U.S. in the early 1890s. By 1895 he had a studio in San Francisco and by 1897 he had settled in Los Angeles. He died there on June 15, 1921.
