This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Oakland, CA on Jan. 6, 1879.  Following graduation from Oakland High School, Upton studied architecture in New York.  Returning to San Francisco, he worked in the office of architect Wm Faville.  In his leisure he studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute and with Maurice Logan at the CCAC.  His painting style was similar to that of Maxfield Parrish.   For
many years he was an architect for the Federal Housing Administration.  He was a resident of Berkeley, CA from 1915 until his demise on July 16, 1943.  Exh:  SFAA, 1903; Starr King Fraternity (Oakland), 1905; Oakland Art Fund, 1905.
