| Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Albert Valentien began his career as a pottery designer, working first for Wheatley Potters in Cincinnati and then serving as artistic director at Rookwood Pottery from 1881 to 1905. In 1906, he became a full-time painter, and two years later, moved to San Diego where he lived the remainder of his life and took on a huge commission by Ellen Browning Scripps to record all of the wildflowers of California. He worked on this project from 1909 to 1918, and the result was 12 (showing 500 of 4321 characters). |
