| | Born in Vernon, CA in 1885 into a pioneer family for whom the town is named. After studying art in Brittany and New York, Vernon returned to Los Angeles in 1917 as art critic on the Graphic. Working in oil and watercolor, he produced works which were avant garde by the art standards of his day. He died of diabetes in Vernon on Feb. 8, 1919. Member: Calif.
