Charles Valton was born in Pau, France on 1/26/1861.  A student of both Antoine Louis Barye and Emmanuel Fremiet, he studied at the famous Paris zoological garden, "Jardin des Plantes".

He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1868.

By 1914, over seventy of his models were exhibited at the Salon.  In 1875, he became a memb (showing 500 of 1458 characters).
