Born in Iowa on July 22, 1885. Van Scoy settled in Los Angeles in 1926 and studied there at the Chouinard School of Art. She died in Los Angeles on Oct. 14, 1968. Exh: Stendahl Gallery (LA), 1936; Progressive Art Center (Laguna Beach), 1939; Tuesday Afternoon Club (Glendale), 1960.

Biography from Spencer Jon Helfen Fine Arts:
Claire Van Scoy was born in Iowa in 1885.  In 1926 she settled in Los Angeles, where she studied at the Chouinard School of Art.

Van Scoy was employed by the Federal Art Project by at least 1936, and exhibited in Southern California, including a 1939 show at the Progressive Art Center in Laguna Beach.

Little more is known about this enigmatic artist, and her work is quite rare. Van Scoy passed away in Los Angeles in 1968.
