This biography from the Archives of AskART:

A painter and art teacher, Elizabeth Foster Vytlacil was married for over 50 years to the renowned American abstract Expressionist painter, Vaclav Vytlacil.

She was born in St. Paul Minnesota to Dr. Burnside Foster and Sophia Hammond Foster and attended Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut.  She studied art at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, in Paris, France with Lhote, and in Munich, Germany with  Hans Hoffman and C. von Marr.

She married her husband in Florence, Italy, in 1927.  The Vytlacils lived and worked in Positano, Italy, on the Amalfi coast for longer periods of time during the 20s, 30s, and 40s.  Later on, they divided their time between homes in Sparkill, New York, and Chilmark, Massachusetts on Martha's Vineyard.

Mrs. Vytlacil died on February 11, 1988 at her home in New York.
