Born in Rotterdam, Holland, Hanny Van Der Velde was the mother of Henry Van Der Velde, the American painter. She graduated from the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts after taking an eight year course in both fine and decorative arts. She moved to the United States, and settled in Royal Oak, Michigan, and became a member of the Detroit Society of Women Painters (honorary).
In 1910 Van Der Velde began exhibiting annually in the United States, leading up to a prize for < (showing 500 of 987 characters). |
