This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Jacques and Mim Van Aalten lived in the French Quarter of New Orleans, where they had a formal portrait studio.  But he also came down to Jackson Square regularly on weekends to do charcoals and quick sketches of visitors/tourists.  They both enjoyed meeting people and Jacques really liked doing their portraits.  He did oils, including a series of jazz musicians based on views of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. That series was painted around 1968.

Information provided as a bulletin by the artist's nephew.
