| Monona Van Cise, a painter of landscapes in oil and watercolor, was born November 19, 1859, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. While her father fought in the Civil War, Van Cise lived in Wisconsin, after which the family resided for several years in Michigan, settling in Algona, Louisiana, in 1870. She married Orson Fowler Van Cise, a civil engineer and Universalist minister, in 1878. When their only child died at the age of three, Van Cise turned to art. She studied in Minneapolis, c. 1889-1892, and, in (showing 500 of 3232 characters). |
