Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data
compared to the extensive information about American artists.
The Hague artist Theo van Hoytema became well-known for his color-lithographed illustrations for Hans Christian Andersen's fairy-tale THE UGLY DUCKLING (1893). This picture book was unique in Holland because of its blending text with pictures, produced from stone plates and published by C. M. van Gogh (Vincent’s family).
Van Hoytema was greatly inspired by flora and fauna and converted influences from Art Nouveau and Japanese art after his own fashion. He did not belong to any schoo (showing 500 of 1079 characters). |
