Born in Philadelphia, Van Ingen was a pupil of Thomas Eakins and Christian Schuessele at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Completing his studies at the Academy, he moved to New York where he apprenticed under three noted stained glass artists: John La Farge, Francis Lathrop, and Lewis C. Tiffany.
Aside from his talent in stained glass, Van Ingen was also noted for his abilities in mural painting. He achieved considerable fame from his murals in the Congressional Library in Wash (showing 500 of 836 characters). |
