| Adele Williams was born in Richmond, Virginia. She was the granddaughter of H. M. Smith a draughtsman and inventor, gifting her the artistic gene. She attended and graduated from the public schools of Richmond at the age of 15 and was first in her class. Her passion for art continued, and in 1886 she went to New York to study in the Woman's Art School of Cooper Union. She graduated in three years winning two medals. While in New York she was also a student at the Gotham Art School's Art Student (showing 500 of 1936 characters). |
