This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Adele Williams was born in Richmond, Virginia. She was the granddaughter of H. M. Smith a draughtsman and inventor, gifting her the artistic gene. She attended and graduated from the public schools of Richmond at the age of 15 and was first in her class. Her passion for art continued, and in 1886 she went to New York to study in the Woman's Art School of Cooper Union. She graduated in three years winning two medals. While in New York she was also a student at the Gotham Art School's Art Student League associated with many prominent art instructors.

In 1888 Williams first picture was exhibited at the Academy of Design. She contributed regularly to the American Water Color Society exhibitions and the New York Club. She focued on watercolor and studied with Rhonda Holmes Nicholls. In 1892 she traveled in Europe for three months, and she continued her studies in Paris, France.

WIlliams called home Richmond, Viriginia.

This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Note from Mary Lynn Bayliss, who is writing a book on the artist:

Adele Williams died on December 18, 1952.

You might be interested in knowing about the two articles I published about her in Virginia Cavalcade (published by the Virginia State Library and Archives, now called the Library of Virginia) in 1992. They are:

"Exhibitions of Talents: Adele Williams and the Richmond Art Scene," Part 1 Virginia Cavalcade Vol. 41, # 4 (Spring 1992), 166-177.

"Exhibitions of Talents: Adele Williams and the Richmond Art Scene," Part 2, Virginia Cavalcade Vol 42, # 1 (Summer, 1992) 36-47).

A print of her 1892 watercolor, Lengthening Shadows, Giverny, Normandy, is on the cover of that issue.
