Born in Greeenridge, Missouri, Alice Beach Winter was a painter, sculptor, and illustrator and was especially known for her child portraits and illustration genre for children's magazines. She was raised in St. Louis and was a student for six years at the St. Louis School of Fine Art, where she received high honors. She also studied for one year at the Art Students League in New York with John Twachtman, Joseph DeCamp, and George deForest Brush.

Exhibition venues included the Pennsylvania Academy, St. Louis Exposition of 1897, the Carnegie Institute, and National Association of Women Artists.

Her husband was the artist Charles Allan Winter, whom she married in 1904, and the couple spent much time at Gloucester, Massachusetts where she was active in the North Shore Art Association and the Gloucester Society of Artists. In 1932, the Winters spent time in Pasadena, California.

The artist Alice Mary Beach studied with and married Charles Allen Winter and became Alice Beach Winter. She is listed among your artists as Alice Beach Winter. Before she married, she established a reputation in St. Louis as Alice Mary Beach and illustrated the book her father, Edgar Rice Beach (an Andersonville survivor), wrote. She was my Great Aunt.

Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
Portrait painter, illustrator, teacher. Born in Greenridge, MO on March 22, 1877. Alice Beach was raised and educated in St Louis and studied there for six years at the School of Fine Arts where she was awarded highest honors. She further studied for one year at the ASL in NYC. In 1904 she married artist Charles A. Winter. She was a resident of Pasadena, CA in 1932 and Gloucester, MA from 1947 until her death in April 1968. Her work includes magazine illustrations of child life and children's portraits. Member: Nat'I Ass'n of Women Painters & Sculptors; North Shore AA; Gloucester Society of Artists.
