Biography from AskART:
| Anonymous Note:
After studying with Whistler and at the Academie Julian in Paris, Whiting became founder/director of the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio in 1901. A supporter of etching, he was no doubt instrumental in initiating that museum's outstanding collection of etchings, among them works by his friends in France such as American artist George Aid (1872-1938) who was active in the etching world of Paris -- and his studio mate at the Julian.
