| Born in Kassel, Germany in 1819, the son of painter Carl Wenderoth. Frederick was a pupil of his father from an early age and later studied at the Kassel Academy. Accompanied by Charles Christian Nahl and family, he moved to Paris in 1846 and in 1849 sailed to NYC. While living in the home of artist Louis Nagel, he had successful exhibitions at the American Art Union which provided him with the funds for further travel. In 1851 he and the Nahl family made the arduous trek across the Isthmus (showing 500 of 1520 characters). |
