The following biography is from James S Hamilton, Jr. , a researcher of New Jersey artists:
August Will (his full name was John M. August Will, but he signed his paintings and was always known as August Will) was born in Weimar, Germany in 1834. Nothing is known of his early arts education, if any, or his other schooling in Germany. It is known that Will was in the United States at least by 1855 (at the age of 21) since there is a pen and ink drawing of the New York City Post Office (showing 500 of 1910 characters). |
