This biography from the Archives of AskART:
From Columbus, Ohio, Barbara Wood is a painter of modernist figures, especially females, and genre scenes, and for much of her subject matters, draws on her own life of raising three children. She also does lithography.

She was raised in Columbus by her mother, grandmother and great grandmother and never knew her father.  Her mother spent her weekdays working, which meant that Barbara spent much time with her grandmothers.  She said that "the personalities of the three women formed a catalyst for her art.  She also had much time for pursuing her talent as a youngster because she suffered from asthma and spent much time alone---"on the inside looking out"

After high school graduation, she used a scholarship to attend Traphagen School of Fashion.  There one of her instructors encouraged her to change to fine art, which she did and then she enrolled at the Art Students League in New York City.

She married, raised three children, and living in California attended the Parsons School of Art and the Pasadena School of Fine Art.
