| Known for his illustrations of comic books and horror stories, Bernie Wrightson started his career as an illustrator for The Baltimore Sun.
The next year, having visited with comic book illustrator Frank
Frazetta, he decided to write his own stories, which he then showed to
Dick Giordano of DC Comics. Giordano gave him a freelance
assignment, and Wrightson began spelling his name 'Berni' to
distinguish himself from the Olympic diver, Bernie Wrightson. He
