| Born in Sterling, Illinois on July 9, 1874, Carl Werntz was a painter of landscape and allegorical subjects,an illustrator, cartoonist and teacher who founded in 1902 the Chicago Academy of Arts. This institution was dedicated to fine and applied art including illustration, cartooning and other aspects of commercial art, and Werntz taught there for almost thirty years. He also served as President and member of the Board of Directors, and is credited with attracting many good teachers including W (showing 500 of 2520 characters). |
