The following information was submitted in April of 2006 by his son Henry C. White: I'm
Charles J. White's only living biological son from his first marriage to Viola White. They were divorced and I was told for
over 30 years that my father was dead. I accidentally found him
in April 1990 while I was tracking down my birth certificate because I
was thinking of retiring from the Navy. I found my uncle Billy
White in Pine Hill, N.J. Billy White contacted my father and he
called me that day. We agreed to meet a few weeks later in Quaker
Town, PA. I told my 3 sisters ( Dottie, Lorie, Nancy) and we all
drove to Quaker Town to meet him.
I only knew him for
3 years; he passed in 1993. He requested that I bury him at sea
and I was able to fulfill his request. I was stationed on board
the USS Ashland LSD-48 during the summer of 1993, when I
committed my father's ashes to the sea while the ship was crossing the
Atlantic ocean on its maiden cruise to the Mediterranean.
