| Born in San Francisco, CA on Oct. 10, 1855. Wilson first studied painting with his mother, Agnes (California's earliest known woman artist) and later with Jules Tavernier. He lived in his native city until 1900 when he moved north to Eureka. Sketching trips were made to Mexico, Central America and the west coast of South America; however, it is his paintings of the California redwoods which brought him renown. He had a ready market in the East where his works were reproduced by calendar make (showing 500 of 1187 characters). |
