Christian Gottlob Winterschmidt was born on September 5, 1755 in Nürnberg, Germany.  He died on  January 2, 1815 in Nürnberg, and is buried there in the Johannesfriedhof.   He is the son of Adam Wolfgang Winterschmidt and  Ursula Dietzsch.  The Winterschmidt family can be traced back to the 14th Century in Nürnberg.
 
Christian was married to Anna Maria Bungen.
