This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Eugen Weisz is today among the forgotten artists not because his art lacked distinction – he regularly exhibited in prestigious shows alongside painters now esteemed American Masters – but because when he died, much of his finest work disappeared from view. His widow rebuffed all interested collectors, refusing to consider selling her treasure.

So Weisz’s growing renown died with him.

His noteworthy contributions among those exemplifying the best in contemporary painting simply vanished, hidden away for twenty-five years in the home studio he had built stone by stone. Now the time has come to remember and rediscover Eugen Weisz and the art that was his life. Very truly he was described, at various times by different people, as a man remarkable in understanding, in tolerance, sympathy and real generosity of spirit, an ennobling person to be with, a wonderful human being.
