Mr. Ferrin Whitaker was trained at the Art Institute in Chicago in the late 1920's. He became a commercial artist in Chicago during the depression. He worked for Montgomery Ward designing their catalog for many years, then opened a commercial art studio with a partner called the Whitaker Gernsey Studio. They eventually had offices in New York as well as Chicago.

In his early 40's he retired to La Jolla CA where he began pursuing a career as a fine artist. He continued to paint for many years and was represented by a gallery in Carmel, CA.
