| Fred Albert Joseph Wieland (1889-1967)
Stained-glass designer, muralist. Born in Würzburg, Germany on March 14, 1889. Fred Wieland immigrated to the U.S. in 1904 and became a naturalized citizen of the U.S in 1913.
He studied fresco painting for four years in New York City at the National Academy of Design and Art Students League Robert Henri and George Luks.
After serving in the U.S. Army during WWI, he settled in San Diego in 1923 and established a stained-glass studio. Many of the churches, chapels, cemeteries, and other public buildings in San Diego County are graced with his creations.
