This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following information is from Arnold L. Wilson, "the only surviving son" of Frederick Wilson.

Frederick Wilson was an artist, cartoonist and newspaper man. His talents included a Presidential Citation from President Roosevelt for his WWII war bond cartoons.

While in the U.S. Navy as a Yeoman First Class petty officer who served on the USS Tennessee, he became the editor of the Anchor magazine at the Naval Training Center, San Diego, where three of his sons went through boot camp including myself. He then after discharge joined the Art Department at the San Diego Union newspaper before merging with the Tribune. At this time he had his own column called "sports in review" by Fred F. Wilson, where he not only drew the sports figure in artistry, but then drew the person as a cartoon character.

He went on to work for Douglas Aircraft as an illustrator designing aircraft for the war effort and studied photography ending his career as "Mr. Photographer" for the Long Beach Independent & Press Telegram newspapers while still drawing his cartoons.
