Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
Painter. Born in San Francisco, CA on April 19, 1889.

Wolf grew up and attended public schools in his native city. He was introduced to art in the studio of Gertrude Boyle and later spent one year in Europe where he was greatly influenced by the French Impressionists.

A lifelong resident of California, about 1926 he moved south to Half Moon Bay where his grandparents had settled in 1846. As well as landscapes of that area and the Sierra Nevada, he also painted a series of the missions and the historic buildings of San Mateo County.

Although he worked in oil, he was primarily a watercolorist. About 1500-2000 of his works are extant. Wolf was about 90 percent blind during his last 30 years but continued to paint at his studio on Frenchman's Creek Road until his death on April 11, 1976.

Exh: SWA; San Mateo Arts Council, 1977 (solo). In: San Mateo Co. Library; Millbrae City Hall. lnvw.
