| Born in Leamington Spa, England on Oct. 20, 1865. Winterburn studied art with Merson, Thaulow, and LeRoy. He came to San Diego in 1886 and was naturalized in 1892. While teaching industrial art at UC Berkeley in 1896-1901, he studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute. After the 1906 earthquake he settled in Los Angeles and taught art at Polytechnic High School for many years. He died there on Aug. 17, 1953. Exh: Fine Arts League (LA), 1909; Southern Calif.
