This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Gretchen Huber Warren was born in Hartford, Connecticut and graduated from the College of Visual & Performance Arts, at Syracuse University in 1985. She pursued an illustrators career creating book covers and freelance illustrations for "Readers Digest" and others. Her work is oil on canvas and is intended to convey beauty with vibrant colors, light effects, and crisp clarity of line and form to show real place and time.

Many of her paintings are landscapes of the High Sonoran Desert, with their proliferation of Opuntia, Saguaro, Barrel and Teddy Bear cacti. She strives to capture the unique quality of these cacti in the golden light of the low sun in their forbidding spines and needles.

Genre is another of her subjects, and she creates paintings of mid 20th-century American Hotels, filling stations, store fronts and the modern marketplace, scenes.
