| Landscape painter. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 11, 1889, a descendant of telegraph inventor Samuel Morse. After graduating from the Pratt Institute, Ward had further study in Paris. He came west and taught art at Colusa (CA) High School for many years before establishing the art department at Sacramento Jr. College in 1923. Upon retirement from that school in 1949, he won a Carnegie grant to do research in fine arts and was author-illustrator of the book, The Thing Called Art.
