Biography from Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts:
| Harold Worlton Woolston (1906-1993) was born in Lehi, Utah. An important Utah impressionist, Woolston studied with Elbert Eastmond of Stanford University and B.F Larson of Brigham Young University. He was mostly influenced by Birger Sandzen and Phillip Barkdull in his use of thick paint in his landscape and still life.
Woolston graduated from BYU in 1933 and became an art instructor in the public school system. He was a member of the Springville Salon, showing at this event for over fifty years. Relatively obscure, Woolston made the common mistake of many of the Utah painters in failing to get good gallery representation outside the state. |
