A painter and designer, she taught art at Englewood Art Gallery in New Jersey beginning 1943. She was born in Oswego, New York and studied at the Corcoran School in Washington DC. Known throughout New England for her landscapes and seascapes. Hazel
Kitts Wires is a graduate of Corcoran Gallery School of Art in
Washington, D.C. A summer student with Aldro T. Hibbard, W. Lester
Stevens and John Chetcuti. Recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany
Foundation scholarship and the Hugh Breckenridge School of Art
scholarship. Prior to moving to Peru, Vermont, she taught art as the director
and owner of the North Jersey Art School in Teaneck, N.J. She was
active in many Art Clubs and Associations through central and northern
N.J. Upon moving to Peru, Vermont, she became both a faculty and
exhibiting member of several Art Centers in southern Vermont. She was a
member of The National League of American Pen Women of which she is a
past President of the Vermont Branch. Many of her painting are held in
private collection in this country and Europe. During her free time she
has volunteered teaching to children as well as senior citizens in both
Rutland and Manchester Vermont.
