Biography from Paderewski Fine Art:
Born in 1954 in Greenville, SC, Jack Whitaker spent his youth in various locations throughout the South.  His interest in drawing began at an early age and at age 13 he studied under noted artist Lois Hendry in Waynesville, NC.  Whitaker’s interest in art remained with him through high school.  He studied engineering at Central Piedmont College, in Charlotte, N.C but later returned to the arts and pursued set design with the school of theater.  Later Whitaker became the scenic artist in residence and in 1977, and worked for the summer stock production through the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.

In 1978, Jack left his beloved South to study painting and print making at Rochester Institute of Technology.  While continuing his studies, Whitaker supported his family by taking up the framing trade. In 1983, he opened his own studio, The Park Avenue Art Gallery and Frame Studio.  Shortly thereafter he opened a second location in nearby Mendon, New York all while continuing to cultivate his talent and passion for painting.

Whitaker returned to the south in 1992 and settled in Conyers, GA.  He turned his attention to commercial art working in the exhibit and scenic industry.  During this period, Whitaker created murals for the Atlanta Hyatt Regency in honor of the 1996 Olympic Games. Whitaker still dabbles in the commercial art realm but has since committed to painting full time.

Whitaker’s, scenic landscapes of rural Georgia and North Carolina have gained notoriety with major collectors of American Art. He is represented by many galleries around the country.
