| Born in Salem, MA on Aug. 28, 1821. Ward came to California during the war with Mexico as a member of Stevenson’s Regiment. His sketch of San Francisco in 1848 appeared in Bayard Taylor's, El Dorado, or Adventures in the Path of Empire (1850). During the early 1850s he was a member of the Vigilance Committee and one of the first directors of the Society of California Pioneers. During 1855-78 he lived in Massachusetts and in 1878 returned to San Francisco where he was a notary and published h (showing 500 of 808 characters). |
