| | Jon Wilsher was a tonalist painter whose California works capture the dramatic light of both dawn and twilight against the landscape. Jon Wilsher was born in London in the 1940s, and educated at St. Martin's School of Art, where he studied illustration. After traveling in the Far East, he returned to London and studied painting with Marian Kratocwyl, a student of Dame Ethel Walker. He worked as an illustrator for Thames & Hudson before moving to Cornwall. and becoming a wildlife artist and a member of the British Society of Wildlife Painters. In 1980, Mr. Wilsher moved to Santa Barbara, California. He was a member of the plein aire Oak Group. He died in 1999 in Santa Barbara, California.
