This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| A Philadelphia artist, Joseph Willman is known to have exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in the 1890's. Willman is associated with the artist group known as "The Scumblers", a highly informal group of a dozen or so artists that used an abandoned barn, known among them as the "Shack," that still stands at Edison, PA, near Doylestown in Bucks County.
Some of the Scumblers were also members of the Philadelphia Sketch Club: Charles Grafly, 1913-1929; W.A. Hofstetter, 1906-1918; E.H. Clevenger, 1912-1923; J.C. Worthington, 1893-1895.
