 Julia M. Wickham was born in Cutchogue, Long Island. She was a key member of the Peconic Bay Impressionists that included Caroline M. Bell, Carrie Carter Wells, Virginia Wood Goddard, Annie Young, Marguerite Hawkins, Clara Howard and other North Fork artists.
Like Bell, Wickham studied with Birge Harrison and John Carlson at Woodstock, New York. She also traveled with Dolly Bell and the others to Gloucester, Massachusetts where they painted with Emile Gruppe and Anthony Thieme.
Julia Wickham exhibited at the MacDowell Club (1919) and at the Pen & Brush Club in 1928. She also participated in exhibitions at the National Association of Women Painters & Sculptors during the 1930’s. In 2005, a major retrospective of her work was held at the Cutchogue Free Library.
