This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Karl E. Wood (1944 - 1990)

A well known western Canadian artist, Karl E. Wood was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and died in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. He lived and worked in several communities in western Canada including Victoria, B.C. (c.1950s - 1960s); North Vancouver, B.C. (c.1960s - 1972); Westbank, B.C. (1972 - 1984); and the 'Ghost River region northwest of Cochrane, Alberta' (after 1984). He belonged to a family of well known artists: his father was Robert E. Wood (1919 - 1980) and his sons are Robert E. Wood (b. 1972) and James E. Wood (b.1974).

Karl Wood's mediums included oils, lithography* and limited edition prints. His best known subjects were landscapes, mountains, rivers, lakes, rural scenes, coastal scenes, and western genre*. Even though he travelled across Canada and in the Arctic, his best known paintings depicted scenes in the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, most famously in the Canadian Rockies. His styles could be described as Realism*, Impressionism* and Plein Air Painting*. AskART Images have some excellent illustrations of his oeuvre.

Wood became a fulltime artist in 1965. He is considered self taught; however, he did study in Victoria (1962) with Allan W. Edwards (1915 - 1992). His other noted teachers and influences are his father Robert E. Wood (see AskART) and Vancouver area artist Egbert Oudendag (see AskART).
