This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Following is an obituary of the artist, Katheryn Leone Wood  (1869-1936)

Many of our readers and townspeople will remember Miss Katheryn Leon Wood as a former Galesburg girl.  She was the daughter of Edward and Francis Wood and was born in the farm home south of Richland, July 25, 1869, where she grew to young womanhood and taught school around here at the age of sixteen.  At one time she was a member of tour local Methodist Church, but late became a Christian Scientist in which faith she followed until the last.

Miss Wood as an author of note wrote at one time “Sketches and Side Lights,” in the Chicago Tribune and the New York Tribune.  She wrote stories for the Ladies Home Journal and other magazines.

She was a famous miniature and portrait painter, having painted Judge Severns; Miss Burroughs, first regent of the D.A.R.; Count Von Bernstorff, German ambassador to the United States; and former minister Wu Ting Fang, of China.  Among the local paintings was a fine one of Mrs. Harold Upjohn.

Many of her paintings were exhibited in our most famous art galleries; such as in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. Antonio Corsi posed for her in her picture, The Shiek.

She died in Los Angeles, March 12, 1936.
